You Get to Want What You Want

When you tap into your inner voice and identify your vision, you bring to life your deepest longing. Your vision manifests the essence of you based on your truth, values, creativity, and authenticity. Putting yourself out into the world in this way can feel risky; the thought of that risk can easily block your from seeing your vision.

A vision can be small or large, and have an impact on your daily life or the big picture of your life. For example, a vision of the ideal day care situation for my baby forms in my mind as his birth grows closer. I’m counting on the vision of what I truly desire to assist in attracting the optimal child care situation. In the whole scheme of life, this is a smaller vision, yet no less important. And this “smaller” vision makes a direct impact on my ability to realize my far-reaching vision for my coaching business.

A vision that’s compelling for you is often right at your fingertips. We all have an inkling of the vision we’d like to put into the world: the forgotten dream, the “ridiculous” idea, and the “unrealistic” business venture. You are born knowing what you want at your deepest core. After awhile, many of us begin to settle for what we think we’re allowed to have. “Just okay” becomes good enough. “It’s fine” becomes a way of life. The parameters of our wanting become defined by what the saboteur and family, friends, or a significant other tell us we are allowed to have.

I was recently speaking with a client about this exact topic. Patrick related to me that at some point in his life, he just stopped dreaming. Caught up in the routine of daily life, he stopped thinking about his visions for the present and the future. At the end of our coaching session, I gave Patrick an exercise to take away and ponder. His task was to look at eight areas of his life: health, career, money, friends and family, fun and recreation, physical environment, and personal growth, and create a vision that he’d LOVE to be living for each one. During our next call, he revealed his visions to me. We discovered that he had equated vision with what he was willing to live with. I pushed him to tap into what he would really love to manifest in his life. YOU GET TO WANT WHAT YOU WANT. This is where vision is born.

Believe it or not, there is no “judge of desire” holding court to decide if your vision is legitimate or not. “Well, Bill’s been a good boy and his want is modest, so he can pursue the career he’s always wanted. The vision committee will allow his dream to come true. But Samantha-the committee doesn’t believe that her business idea is a go. Too ambitious. Too risky. Who does she think she is?” Excavating your vision is an act of not only moving past internal barriers, but of claiming the authentic desires that are rightfully yours. In the process, you reclaim yourself.

Televised poker makes it seem like poker is a sport for millionaires and heirs that have money to burn. More and more televised highlights focus only on the last couple of rounds of a tournament, when the stakes are unbelievably high. For the average player, this can be a bit daunting.

If you are simply an average player, without a trust fund or an unlimited bank account, don’t despair. Not everyone is a high roller. In fact, most player fall somewhere in the low to middle range. The average American poker player spent $87.17 in a casino in 2003. This statistic clearly shows that most player aren’t playing high stakes games, in fact, most players aren’t even playing medium stakes. They are just playing to enjoy the game, spending a little money, and then moving on.

Something that you need to remember with statistics is that they represent the entire spectrum. That means that the expenses of the highest and the lowest players were combined with the average players to come up with the figure of $87.17. Some players play high stakes sure, but some players also only play a single game before moving on. You can be generally assume that you are in good company if you fall somewhere in the middle between a millionaire and a hesitant first time poker player.

The only way to become a writer is to write. That requires a great deal of self-control and dedication, not only writing when the urge is upon you, but even when it is not. That requires seeing the words flow onto the blank page or screen.

Force yourself to sit at your desk or in front of your computer screen and write something, anything until the ideas begin to flow, and flow they will. You will soon learn that what you write when the urge is not there will be as good as when the impulse is strong. Later, when you reread what you wrote, you will be unable to tell what was a struggle or what was an inspiration.

Stay before the bare page or empty screen until it is full. One page is not impossible, and once that page is full, you will find that it is easy to fill two pages or more. Write as quickly as you can think. Do not disrupt the flow of ideas and sentences with concern about grammar, syntax, and other rules.

This is not the time to rewrite. Write quickly, ignoring spelling and punctuation. That can be corrected with rewriting as is the use of the dictionary and thesaurus. The important action is to put words to paper or to screen, to explore your thoughts, to brainstorm, if necessary.

More important is the development of self-control, of dedication, of persistence, and of a work habit. All productive writers have acquired this determination.

To pass your CCNA exam and earn this coveted certification, you’ve got to master the seven layers of the OSI model and what each layer does. For those of you taking the two-exam path, you can expect quite a few OSI model questions on the Intro exam. In this seven-part series, we’ll spend some time taking a look at each of the OSI model layers, starting with the Physical layer.

Often, CCNA candidates ask if the OSI model has any practical uses for network administrators. I used to wonder the same thing, and I can now tell you that the answer is definitely yes!

The OSI model isn’t something you want to memorize and then forget about, as using the OSI model gives you a structured approach for troubleshooting. Whenever a network device isn’t working properly, I always say to “start at the physical layer”. The Physical layer is Layer One of the OSI model, and this is where troubleshooting should always start. Is the device on? Is it properly connected? If everything is fine at Layer One, you just move up to Layer Two, and continue in this structured fashion until the problem is identified.

The Physical layer is the layer at which bits are transmitted over the physical media. There is no routing or switching going on at this layer. The data has been broken down into more manageable pieces until the data takes the form of ones and zeroes at the Physical layer.

Even though there’s no routing or switching at the Physical layer, CCNA candidates should be familiar with a couple of network devices that work at Layer One. A repeater is a device that regenerates an electrical signal, allowing the signal to travel longer distances without fading. (The process of an electrical signal gradually fading in strength over distance is “attenuation”.) A hub is basically a multiport repeater, and both of these devices are considered Physical layer devices. Ethernet and Token Ring both operate at the Physical layer as well.

Learning the OSI model’s Physical layer isn’t just important in your CCNA exam studies, it’s the first step in any network troubleshooting. After all, your network’s end users are going to have a tough time sending print jobs to a printer that’s turned off!

To be truly prepared for your CCNA and CCNP exams, you need real hands-on experience with real Cisco routers and switches. However, a production network is a really bad place to practice your configurations, but an excellent way to get fired and/or sued. The key to becoming a true CCNA and CCNP is assembling your own Cisco home lab.

You don’t have to spend a lot of money to do so; used Cisco equipment is cheaper than ever. It’s robust as well – I’ve bought literally hundreds of used routers and switches over the years and have had very few problems. I owe much of my skill to practicing configurations and troubleshooting in my own home lab.

2501 routers are fantastic for CCNA and CCNP home labs. They come with two serial interfaces, allowing you to connect one interface directly to another router (you’ll need a DTE/DCE cable for that, too) while connecting another to a frame relay switch if you like. If you don’t have a frame relay switch, you can connect a 2501 directly to two other routers via the serial interfaces.

You also have an AUI port, which requires a transceiver to operate as your Ethernet interface. Transceivers are pretty cheap and readily available from Cisco resellers and ebay vendors, so pick one up for each 2503 you decide to buy.

2501 routers don’t come with BRI interfaces, but not every router in your lab has to be ISDN-ready. If you choose not to have ISDN in your lab at all, 2501s are the way to go. If you do want to run ISDN and have an ISDN simulator device, you can get two 2503s and the rest of your routers can be 2501.

All in all, 2501 routers are great for your CCNA / CCNP home lab. They cost less than $100 each on ebay, so they’re also very affordable. There’s no better training than training on your own CCNA or CCNP home lab, and you can always sell the equipment later if you like. Basically, you’re renting the routers and switches, and the experience you get by working with the real deal is invaluable.

Introduction to C++

Why Learn C++?

C++ may at first seem like a boring, confusing programming language that you can only program command prompt applications with. Well, that is what it is like in the [b]begining[/b]. And you are going to need to learn the basics like this with any programming language. As you get better and progress in your C++ skills, you will begin to learn that you can start making some cool applications easier than you thought you could. The main reason to learn C++ though, is that it teaches all the basics of programming and you will learn concepts that will be used in other types of programming. Many other programming languages are like C++ or use C++. For example, PHP, a powerful web development language uses almost the same syntaxes as C++. DirectX, a common game development graphics library primarily uses C++.

Setting up C++

Ill assume that most people are not going to want to spend the money for a compiler, thats fine, there are many great free compilers. I use Dev-C++ because it has some nice features and is fast, and best of all, its FREE!

I would suggest typing it instead of copying it, you will get alot more out of actually typing it rather than copying it, because you get used to the syntaxes and development.

Run the Application:
Now that you have your first C++ Application, [b]Press F9 [/b] to compile and run it. If you did everything right, it should open a command prompt like application and say ‘Hello World’ or whatever you told it to say. If it doesnt, look over the code and make sure everything is correct.

Virtual Real Estate Investing” is a relatively new concept. What is meant by “Virtual Real Estate Investing” ranges from online games like SecondLife (where real profit can be made) to the use of internet technologies to make normal real estate investors more profitable.

To get the facts, I sought out the man generally considered to be the father of virtual real estate investing: Bryan Ellis.

“I began using the term ‘virtual real estate investing’ in the late 1990’s when I realized the clear similiarities in profit strategies, regardless of whether the “real estate” is “virtual” or “physical” said Ellis.

An example of the similar nature of “virtual” and “physical” real estate Bryan Ellis likes to point out is the methods of making a profit from domain names compared to physical real estate. He points out that control of a domain name or even a specific web page is much like controlling a real estate property ” those assets can be monetized in similar ways: By selling them for a profit, by leasing them, by offering advertising, etc.

The parallels really are obvious. For example, if you’re the owner of a desirable property, its desirability is (in a business context) largely due to its being in a location that is of interest to others. Similarly, ownership of a desirable domain name is valuable for the same reasons. In either case, you could sell or lease the asset and turn it into cash.
