I never thought the radiant Nancy Upton, my high school BFF, might someday cover her head with wigs. Her extravagant long black hair flowed in sync with her attitude. Get this. The one and only is still celebrated for her hair. Only a handful of souls can tell she dons synthetic wigs. It’s not so unusual.

When we were mere children in Arizona, we once stole the spotlights to every dance. A few years went by before her alopecia kicked in and she went bald. I recommended a few lace wigs. Oh well, she just shaved her head. She proudly unveiled her innate beauty.

Appearing at our alma mater’s golf competition, we heckled until someone purposefully slapped the little ball (or that thing they use) at the crowd. She jumped up for it and her hat landed in a beer, revealing her hair (or lack thereof). Undisturbed, she lobbed it playfully right back at him. That’s so her!

However, there’s two sides to every coin. The same summer she invited me over for a “Gilmore Girls” binge, the day she looked me in the eye and revealed that she would rather do without hair out of anger. She dare not become dependent on human hair wigs, though she wanted her hair back. And who would have thought she grew embarrassed and demanded that I drop it. So I did.

I wanted to help so bad. Shortly after, I IM’d with her about settling the wig issue. After a long deliberation we both came to the obvious conclusion: we’ll think of wigs as fashion, and we love fashion. Wigs for the both of us, on me!

We had a great time, floored by the fashionable styles. I never knew that synthetic wigs were this fashionable for beautiful people and famous actors. These lace wigs were marvelous. Personally, I built a comprehensively fresh ensemble to wear with my synthetic wig. We stand together, you know. Recently she thanked me for reintroducing, and confessed it rekindles a feminine mystique that she’d forgotten. It’s delightful to realize my best friend live a happier existence. We both are.
