Making a play for the blinds is a great idea in poker game, as it can keep you alive during a dry run and buy you another round of poker. If you’re good at it, you can make it pretty far in a tournament without taking a single hand to a showdown. However, if your opponents catch on to you at the casino, your bluffing attempts will end up costing you more than they will earn you. Few things are more detrimental to a poker player than sitting at a table of opponents who know how he plays. If you find yourself successfully buying up blinds, it can be easy to overdo it. Once you’ve found something that works, keep it up, right? Wrong. Buying up too many blinds will make it clear to your opponents that you are in the habit of buying blinds, and before you know it, everyone will be calling your bluffs, and it doesn’t take very many busted bluffs to end your game. Even if your bluffs are working, use them sporadically. Try to intersperse your bluffs with good hands or a series of folds to keep your pokeropponents in the dark about what kind of pocket cards you’re playing with.
